Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school

Representative Sport
The NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) provides a pathway for students to participate and excel in competitive school sport.
At Blacksmiths Public School, we are proud to have multiple students and teams who represent at Hunter Region, NSW State and National levels across a variety of PSSA sports. Students are offered individual representative opportunities in numerous sporting disciplines, enabling them to develop their skills, compete at the highest level and experience the pride of representing their school.
As part of our strong sporting culture, we hold annual Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals, which serve as pathways to higher levels of competition.
We consistently perform at an outstanding level and proudly cater for numerous students in the High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) physical domain through representative sport. These opportunities not only foster sporting excellence but also build teamwork, resilience and a strong sense of school pride.

Star Struck
Star Struck is an annual performing arts showcase presented by the NSW Department of Education for students across Newcastle, the Hunter and Central Coast regions. The event features outstanding performances in dance, drama, and music by students from Kindergarten to Year 12, drawn from a wide network of NSW public schools.
Star Struck provides rich performance and learning opportunities that foster a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts. Students from small primary schools to large comprehensive high schools, representing a wide range of backgrounds, come together to be part of something truly special.
Students can participate in combined dance, drama, or choir ensembles with their schools, or audition to be selected as featured vocalists and instrumentalists or be a part of the featured dance and drama ensembles. Beyond the stage, students also contribute as members of the stage management, choreographic, and props design teams, gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Environmental Focus
Students at Blacksmiths Public School benefit greatly from the school’s strong environmental focus and unique natural surroundings. With expansive school grounds, students have access to a rich outdoor learning environment that supports both their academic and personal development. The school’s productive vegetable garden and chicken coop provide hands-on opportunities to learn about food production, healthy eating, and animal care, while also promoting responsibility and teamwork. These experiences enhance the curriculum and help students build a practical understanding of sustainability in everyday life.
The school’s commitment to environmental education is further supported by its Australian native forest, sustainability projects, and active gardening and environment clubs. These programs encourage students to develop a deep appreciation for nature and understand the importance of protecting their local environment. Through regular participation in these initiatives, students gain valuable skills in conservation, biodiversity, and eco-friendly practices. Blacksmiths Public School not only provides a vibrant place for learning but also nurtures a generation of environmentally conscious and engaged citizens.
"Our school is cherished for its caring community and dedication to each student's achievement. Every day, our child feels secure and motivated." — a parent of Blacksmiths Public School
